IC selections for the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby

Here are the IC selections for the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby on May 7th, 2011. These selections are based on a fast track.

IC1           #15  Midnight Interlude
IC2          # 4   Stay Thirsty
IC3          #17  Soldat
IC4          # 8   Dialed In
IC5          # 3   Twice the Appeal
IC6          #1    Archarcharch
IC7          #19  Nehro

Longshots: Animal Kingdom, Master of Hounds, Brilliant Speed. If the track comes up sloppy, include Comma to the Top, as well as Shackleford, and pay closer attention to Soldat.

Midnight Interlude is IC1 this year  for many reasons. Here are the top 10.
  1. Mr. Baffert, the trainer of IC1, is 4th all time with 3 previous Derby winners.
  2. Mr. Baffert is in very select company as only 16 trainers in history have won the Derby twice, and only 6 trainers in history have won it 3 or more times.
  3. Mr. Baffert especially knows how to have a horse ready for a big race as he proved May 6, 2011, by winning not 1, but 2 graded stakes including the G1 Kentucky Oaks at a "Plum Pretty" price of 6-1, in a million dollar race!
  4. Did I say Mr. Baffert?
  5. Now to the horse..... Midnight Interlude is a big, tough, ornery horse who could, more than likely, take a little tough racing luck, as he showed when he steadied in deep stretch in the 1 1/8 mile Santa Anita Derby, and still won the race. Maybe he has better luck this time and jockey Victor Espinoza keeps him clear and in the open turning for home. Kinda like Barbaro did a few years ago. He is lightly raced, having run only 4 times, including 3 races going 2 turns.
  6. He has the fastest time of any horse in the race. Kinda like Barbaro had a few years ago.
  7. He has 3 bullet works in him, and seems to like the grounds, but is still under the radar when it comes to his current odds of 10-1. Kinda like Barbaro was at 6-1.
  8. His dam was Group 1 placed in New Zealand going 1 1/2 Miles on the grass, so he has the look of one who can run all day, and distance won't be an issue. In case the track comes up sloppy, it's also noted that he drew off to win by 8 lengths in his maiden breaker on a wet fast track. Thanks Danzig.
  9. Did I mention his trainer is Mr. Baffert?
  10. Lastly, but the most important reason Midnight Interlude will win the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby...HE IS IC1...and IC1 wins many races. He definitely looks like the winner, at a huge price!
So there are the IC's for Saturday, May 7th, 2011. See the next post for more thorough analysis of the Derby and the rest of the card. Good luck everyone! Kudos to DailyDub for getting his #'s out there. Great Job!
