Gomez catches classy ride to Churchill

Two time eclipse award winner Garrett Gomez will be riding the the Irish based Master of Hounds in the Kentucky Derby a week from tomorrow. Aidan O'Brien is expected to ship MOH to Louisville on May 3rd. Gomez comes off a disappointing sixth place last year in the derby aboard the unfortunate Lookin At Lucky, and a second place finish two years back on Pioneer of the Nile. Master of Hounds, the Kentucky bred son of Kingmambo - Silk and Scarlet by Sadler's Wells, will make just its second start of the year after a near miss in Dubai at the UAE Derby back on March 26th. He has the longest route on his resume of all the derby entries this year, and it was an impressive 2nd behind a monster filly. It's a still a tough task to arrive at Churchill on Tuesday and have to face 19 others 4 days later on the dirt in the biggest 3 year old race in the country, but if anyone besides Calvin is up for such a task, it would be Gomez. Maybe this year he'll get a fast course and a cleaner trip, if so MOH could be an outside player, and a middle post could really benefit his chances.
